George Washington Pre-Game Quotes

March 23, 2008

Head Coach Joe McKeown
(On opening comment) "I’m really happy obviously to get past Auburn and I am looking forward to Cal.  It should be a really exciting basketball game.  Cal presents some different challenges for us, they are really strong.  Obviously really have a strong game inside game with Hampton, terrific player with Walker; you know their parameter, Alexis-Grey Lawson.  It seems like they have a lot of interchangeable parts.  They have had a great year; it should be a great match-up."

(On coaching against Joanne Boyle) "I admire how quickly she has gotten this team to play at this level. I think she’s done a real good job adjusting it to the players they have at Cal.  Trying to fit with what would be successful to the DeVanei Hampton, she didn’t have that type of player at Richmond.  No body did."

(On limited time preparing for Cal) "The other team has the same situation, at GW we focus more on us, and then we do on the other team.  But all in all, when you win a game in the NCAA tournament, you want to play again. So I think if you’re a player, you would rather just turn around and play Saturday and get ready.  You know you’re excited about playing Monday.

(On key areas needed to win) "Trying to keep Walker off the glass and Hampton getting the ball really deep, making the extra pass and making them have to defend us, is really important for us.  We have to shoot the ball.  We have to get the game going where we score in transition, I can’t pin point one thing tomorrow that will separate either team.  This is a player’s tournament.  It’s about players stepping up.  They (GW) have won 100 games in 4 years, you just want to give them the ball and stay out of the way."

George Washington Center Jessica Adair
(On preparing for Cal) "Stay out of foul trouble and bring my A game tomorrow, keep them off the boards, boxing out.  Their post players are very good on the inside; it’s the base of their team.  And stopping them and I feel we have a great chance to win."

George Washington Guard Kimberley Beck
(On help from teammates) "When shots are not following, you’ve got to find other ways to be more affective. ?Once we go inside out we are unstoppable."

(On being ready from opening tip) "Be aggressive from the jump and take over this team."
