University of Texas-El Paso vs. Western Kentucky

Final Score: UTEP 92, Western Kentucky 60

  • UTEP made its first-ever postseason appearance in the 34 years of program history. The Miners earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament out of Conference USA.
  • Western Kentucky made its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance and its first since 2003. The Lady Toppers earned the Sun Belt Conference?™s automatic bid after winning their ninth tournament crown.
  • The two programs met for the first time in program history on Saturday.
  • The Miners held control of the game until a layup by the Lady Topper?™s Arnika Brown tied the score 25-25 with 4:41 left in the first half. The score was then tied twice more by WKU, but UTEP broke free and reclaimed the lead with 2:08 remaining on a layup by Brittany Jones. UTEP led 38-31 at the half.
  • UTEP?™s Natasha Lacy led all players in the first half with 11 points and three steals. WKU?™s Dominique Duck finished the half with 10 points and six rebounds.
  • With her free shot at the 16:51 mark, Western Kentucky?™s Crystal Kelly took over the No. 1 spot on the Lady Topper?™s season free throws made list with 258. By the end of the game, Kelly had 260 free throws made. Entering Saturday?™s contest, she was tied with her own junior year mark of 257.
  • With 16:17 left in the second half, the Miners started with a 13-0 rally that culminated at a 21-4 run to take a 22-point lead over the Lady Toppers, 64-42, with 10:41 to play.
  • The Miners earned the largest lead of the contest on a three-pointer by Tasha Marisett, 88-55, with 2:26 left in the second half.
  • UTEP reached 90 points for the first time in the 2007-08 season on a jumper by Sviatlana Trukshanina.
  • With the win, UTEP advances to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face Stanford on Monday.
  • UTEP head coach Keitha Adams earns her first postseason win as head coach at the Division I level.
  • The Miners improved to 28-3 overall.
  • With the loss, Western Kentucky finishes the 2007-08 season with a 26-8 overall record.
