- Boathouse - The RWC Boathouse shell is complete and we are on schedule to take occupancy near the end of March. The picture attached shows the progress as of the end of January.
Travel Updates... In the ever changing world of travel rules, the Bob Dylan line "Oh, the times they are a changin" continues to ring true. The latest: - No more stand by fees. As quickly as the airlines started them, they are no longer. Most all the majors (including American and United) have dropped the $100 standby fee that started in the fall. Check to make sure, but whoever you fly probably no longer charges this fee.
- Paper bag it. Airlines are starting to cut back on food for travelers. America West is now charging for meals on all its flights. None of the majors have followed suit, but watch this trend as they all continue to lose $$$.
Sports Medicine...For those of you who do not know all of Stanford's team doctors, physical therapists, and trainers, we have made a site for Stanford Sports Medicine which has each person's head shot, their position, and the teams they work with. He did so at my request and I am honored. I fully intend to return to Stanford on May 19th and reassume my duties as The Jaquish and Kenninger Director of Athletics and Recreation at Stanford. Debi Gore-Mann and the rest of the administrative staff are fully capable of addressing any issues that may arise until I return on May 19th. In fact, I think they'll do a fabulous job! Don't read anything into the President's generous granting of this leave other than a chance for Ted Leland, at Ted's request to "re-pot" and re-energize himself for the task ahead. I remain privileged and challenged in the job of Athletic Director at Stanford and am excited about the future of our program. Please give me a call if you have any questions. - Ted Leland | Video of the Week | The new promotion video made for Stanford Wrestling... check it out | Kudos | Congrats, Monty! Kudos to Coach Mike Montgomery who logged his 500th career victory when the Men's Basketball team went to Las Vegas and downed UNLV, 77-66. Coach Monty was honored later in a brief ceremony after the men's basketball team's home victory over Oregon State. After celebrating the comeback victory over the Beavers, Ted presented Mike with the game ball from the UNLV game (check it out down in the Hall of Fame room) and a special citation commemorating the milestone. | January & February Birthdays | Irvine, Lesley, 1/1, Field Hockey Program Nelson, Darrin, 1/2, Administration Lomax, Beto, 1/3, Promotions/Marketing Johnson, Greg, 1/5, Strength & Conditioning Charles, Reyes, 1/6, Golf Course Izzi, Michael, 1/6, Development Moses, Wayne, 1/11, Football McCarty, Peter, 1/12, Football Migdol, Gary, 1/14, Media Relations Banker, Mark, 1/15, Football Herrick, David, 1/15, Golf Course Baker, Aimee, 1/16, Women's Crew Gross-Kehoe, Amy, 1/16, Sailing Bacchetti, Greg, 1/19, Promotions/Marketing Ocken, Ben, 1/22, Promotions/Marketing Schuler, Denny, 1/25, Football Lynch, Heather, 1/26, Promotions/Marketing Quinn, Tom, 1/27, Football Quick, Richard, 1/31, Women's Swimming Vandersluis, Russell, 1/31, Golf Course Hayden, Jennifer - 2/2 - Women's Ltwt Crew Weir, Robert - 2/4 - Track & Field Whitlinger, John - 2/4 - Men's Tennis Montague, Shannon - 2/6 - Synch Swimming Kosty, John - 2/8 - Men's Volleyball Matias, Joe - 2/8 - Corp Yard Shaw, Don - 2/9 - Men's Volleyball Torres, Agustin - 2/10 - Golf Course VanDerveer, Heidi - 2/11 - Women's Basketball Gildo Orozco, Sergio - 2/21 - Golf Course Schinski, David - 2/22 - Operations Allbin, Jon - 2/23 - Men's Crew Kenney, Skip - 2/24 - Men's Swimming Koberlein, Earl W. - 2/25 - Administration Sapsford, Paul - 2/25 - Men's Soccer Milgram, Lisa - 2/26 - Men's Fencing Samuels, Gary - 2/26 - Corp Yard Montgomery, Mike - 2/27 - Men's Basketball Veris, Garin Lee - 2/27 - Development Becker, Kris- 2/28 - Operations Miller, Charlie - 2/28 - Training Room | Ideas, News & Feedback! | Your feedback & ideas are important.
