Stanford Athletics Nominated for Amateur Sports Organization of the Year

Award to be presented at 3rd Annual Horizon Awards February 6 in Atlanta

The 3rd Annual Horizon Awards for sports business will be presented on February 6 at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel and Stanford Athletics is nominated in one of the eight categories. Stanford is one of five nominees in the category, "Amateur Sports Organization of the Year" along with the United States Golf Association, USA Hockey, Inc., USA Swimming and the United States Olympic Committee.

"We are honored to be nominated and recognized by the Horizon Awards," said Stanford Athletics Director Ted Leland. Stanford has won the Sears Directors' Cup in each of the last eight years as the top overall athletic program in the nation.

The category in which Stanford is nominated recognizes "the amateur sports organization that had significant or unique success in branding, marketing, financing and participation growth in 2002."

The other awards presented will be in the following categories: Sports Technology of the Year, Sports Business Impact Partnership of the Year, Sports Themed Advertising Campaign of the Year, Sports Media Program of the Year, Sports Philanthropic Partnership of the Year, Professional Sports Organization of the Year and Sports Business Executive of the Year.
