| One of the greatest tight ends in Stanford history, Chris Burford was known for running precise routes and outsmarting defenders throughout his career. In 1959, the three-year letterman earned first team All-America honors tying an NCAA record with 61 receptions and leading the nation with 757 receiving yards. Burford led the conference in receptions in ’59 and finished third in the nation. In his final collegiate against California, he made 12 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown in the 1959 Big Game. A two-time All-Pacific 8 selection, Burford finished his Stanford career with 107 receptions. Drafted in 1960 by the the AFL’s Dallas Texans and the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, he played professionally for eight seasons with the Texans and Kansas City Chiefs. Burford was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1995. |
