| Described by Coach Bill Walsh as an “explosive, quick, decisive and relentless” linebacker, Gordy Ceresino led Stanford in tackles for three of his four seasons on The Farm and ranks as Stanford’s all-time career tackle leader with 529. His 174 stops in 1977 remain the most in a single season at Stanford. A tremendously active tackler, Ceresino was named a 1978 second team All-American by Football News. The two-time first team All-Pac 10 selection in 1977-78 was awarded the Jimmy Rogers, Jr. Most Valuable Lineman Trophy in Stanford’s 24-14 victory over LSU in the 1977 Sun Bowl. Ceresino was named Defensive MVP of the 1978 Bluebonnet Bowl when Stanford rallied from a 22-0 second-half deficit to upset Georgia 25-22. He played one season with the San Francisco 49ers in 1979. | |||||||||||
