A member of Stanford’s first two NCAA champion teams in 1976 and ’78, Doug Burke stands among the men that helped form the foundation of Cardinal men’s water polo’s championship tradition. Thrice an All-America selection (1976-78), Burke capped his Cardinal career by scoring 40 goals as a senior while helping lead Stanford to a 26-1-1 record and its second national title in 1978. Burke would also join the long line of Cardinal men’s water polo Olympians, being selected to the 1980 and ’84 U.S. Olympic Teams, helping the U.S. to the silver medal at the Los Angeles Games in 1984. A member of the U.S. National Team from 1976-88, Burke was enshrined in the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame in 1994 alongside former Stanford teammate Jody Campbell.
