VALENCIA, Calif. - Stanford climbed to a tie for fourth at 18-over-par 882 at the women's golf Pac-12 Championships at the Valencia Country Club.

Mariah Stackhouse, who grabbed a share of first place heading into the final day, tied for third at three-under-par 213. The freshman opened and closed with a pair of one-over 73s, shooting a bogey-free 67 for a second-round best.

"Today's round was pretty steady all around," said Stackhouse who holds a 71.7 stroke average in 25 rounds of competition. "I made the best of an off ball striking day and placed in the top three. I am more than pleased with my play this week."

Stackhouse recorded her eighth top-10 finish of nine events on the season and became a First Team All-Pac-12 selection. The last Stanford women's golfers to receive that honor were Hilary Homeyer and Stephanie Keever, both in 2001.

"Mariah will be a much better player because of the pressure and stress she played under today," said Anne Walker, Stanford's Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "This won't be the last event she has a chance to win and next time she will be twice as ready."

No. 1 (Golfweek) USC, who led the tournament all three rounds, clinched the title at 11-under 853 (280-291-282). No. 14 Washington (293-291-293) finished second at 877, two strokes ahead of No. 8 UCLA (290-292-297) who checked in third with 879.

The No. 11 Cardinal (298-296-288) fired its best round today with an even-par performance, tying with No. 6 Arizona (301-284-297) in fourth.

"We looked at Stanford's results from Pac-12s for the past 12 years and we used that to motivate us both in the lead up to this week and also last night when we were in seventh," Walker said.

This becomes Stanford's best finish since 2001 when the Cardinal came in second.

"We have to continue to work on our attitude and fight," Walker continued. "We have a lot of talent on our team but trusting that talent, letting it work and fighting to compete are characteristics we want to have ingrained before NCAA Regionals."

After firing three birdies for 70 in the final round, Mariko Tumangan tied for 14th. The sophomore (76-74-70) scored 220 for Stanford's second-best finish.

Lauren Kim (77-78-71) and Sally Watson (72-80-74) tied for 29th at 226. Kim became a Second Team All-Pac-12 selection, while Watson earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

With a pair of 72s, Danielle Frasier shot a final round 78 for 42nd with 232.

Stanford hosts the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional at the Stanford Golf Course on May 9-11.
