Last fall the Cardinal went 9-8-1 in Gunn's first season at the helm, finishing third on the Pac-12 table with 16 points (5-4-1 record). Six Cardinal players went on to earn All-Pac-12 Team honors, including three of the team's four seniors in Adam Jahn (first team), Hunter Gorskie (second team) and Dersu Abolfathi (honorable mention).

Jahn would go on to be drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in January's MLS Supplemental Draft, and has been one of the club's bright stars, scoring twice over six appearances through April 21.

Despite the loss of its quartet of seniors, which also includes forward/midfielder Eric Anderson (18 matches, 16 starts, two assists in 2012), the Cardinal has a solid foundation on which to continue building its way towards the NCAA Tournament. Aaron Kovar is coming off of a 2012 season in which he scored three goals with a pair of assists and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, second-team pick JJ Koval steps into a senior leadership role while Zach Batteer netted six goals as s sophomore last fall.
