STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's soccer got its 2013 spring campaign off to an energetic start, racking up a 4-0 win at Cal Poly last Saturday.

Saturday's highlight package features comments from Ty Thompson, who provided two of the four Cardinal goals, and 2012 All-Pac-12 honorable mention JJ Koval.

Stanford controlled the pace of the match throughout, aggressively pushing forward on the Mustang defense and creating numerous chances. The attacking mindset paid off as 2012 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Aaron Kovar and Ty Conklin were able to make impressive runs up the flanks and send crosses into the box that led to each of Thompson's goals.

Stanford's blitz would be balanced by a stout defensive performance marshaled by goalkeeper Drew Hutchins and his back line that recorded the clean sheet. Hutchins and the defense oversaw six shutouts in 2012 and bottled up the Cal Poly attack over the 90 minutes.

The Cardinal hosts its spring home opener at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium this Saturday night at 7 p.m. against San Francisco. Stanford will host a total of three matches this spring, taking on UC Davis at a date still to be determined as well as May 18's Alumni Match.
