STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford freshman first baseman Kayla Bonstrom has been selected the Pac-12 Player of the Week for May 6-12, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Bonstrom led the Cardinal offensively as she went 8-for-13 at the plate, hitting .615. She paced the team with three doubles, her first career triple and a home run to produce eight RBI on the weekend. She finished the week with a 1.231 slugging percentage and a .706 on-base percentage.
Bonstrom helped Stanford finish the regular season with a 2-2 record last week claiming wins over Santa Clara, 11-3 (6) and Arizona on Saturday, 2-0. Bonstrom had a week-high batting percentage of .800 against Santa Clara when she earned four of her RBI,and hit two doubles. The Tucson, Ariz., native hit the ball out of the park in the second game of the series against Arizona, her eighth homer of the year.
Bonstrom earns her first Player of the Week honor and picks up the 54th weekly award for the Cardinal. Arizona State junior Dallas Escobedo was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week.
Stanford received an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament when the selections were announced on Sunday. The Cardinal will head to the Lincoln Regional and face Tulsa (42-14-1) in the opening game on Friday, May 17.
