STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford and California women's rowing teams will clash one final time in the regular season this Saturday at The Big Row at Redwood Shores.
The undercard of the battle between the 10th-ranked Cardinal and the second-ranked Golden Bears begins at 9 a.m. with the first of two alumnae races, the second set for 9:40 a.m.
The II Fours are scheduled for 9:15 a.m. with the Novice Eights set for a 10 a.m. start. The races between the top three boats begins with the Four at 10:10 a.m., the II Eight 10:30 a.m. and the I Eight main event closing out the extravaganza at 10:50 a.m.
The event will also feature longtime Stanford and Cal supporter Dan Gordon of Gordon Biersch serving his famous beverages, bratwurst and garlic fries. Proceeds from the concessions will benefit both teams.
The two teams went head-to-head two weeks ago on the second day of the Lake Natoma Invitational, with California finishing ahead of the Cardinal in all three classes. The I Eight was a particularly tense race as the Cardinal led at the halfway point but was edged out by California over the final 1,000 meters, coming in just 1.9 seconds back of the Golden Bears.
Since that event, the Cardinal built momentum heading into The Big Row by going unbeaten in all three classes at the Oregon State Classic last Saturday, defeating crews from Syracuse, Washington State, Oregon State and San Diego.
Saturday's event will be the final regular-season competition for the Cardinal before May 19's Pac-12 Championships at Lake Natoma.
