STANFORD, Calif. -- Danny Diekroeger has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Diekroeger delivered three game-winning hits, while Stanford went 3-1 during the week. He had back-to-back walk-off singles to beat Saint Mary’s April 15 and Arizona State April 17 to help the Cardinal put together its first three-game winning streak of the season.
The senior from Woodside, Calif., added a fourth-inning home run in Stanford’s 1-0 win over Arizona State April 19.
Diekroeger had a team-best seven hits over the four games of the week and hit .412 (7-17) during the span. For the season, he is hitting .284 (33-116) with 12 RBI and seven doubles.
Stanford’s first baseman, who started every game at second base last season, has also shined defensively for the Cardinal, saving a number of errors at his new position. Stanford has made only six errors in 15 conference games to own the Pac-12’s best fielding percentage (.990).
This is the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for Stanford in 2014 and 70th all-time selection. The Cardinal’s last player of the week honor came April 22, 2013 when Brian Ragira won the award.
