STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford baseball team, winners of three of its last four games, makes the short trip to Santa Clara Tuesday evening for a nonconference game against the Broncos. It will be the first of two meetings between the teams in 2015.

Chris Viall (1-3, 6.17 ERA) is scheduled to get the start on the mound versus Santa Clara lefty Evan Brisentine (2-2, 3.51 ERA). Viall has been used as both a reliever and starter this season, but has not thrown in a game since April 3.

Stanford (14-19, 2-10 Pac-12) is coming off one of its best weekend showings of the season. The Cardinal won two of three at California behind Zach Hoffpauir’s hot hitting and quality starts from Brett Hanewich and Andrew Summerville.

Hoffpauir went 8-19 (.421) last week with a double three home runs and 10 RBI, including reaching base in six of his last eight plate appearance. He hit two three-run homers against the Bears on Saturday and added another blast as part of a 3-for-4 day Sunday, as Stanford won its first Pac-12 series.

Santa Clara (15-19, 4-11 WCC) lost three straight to Pepperdine to fall to ninth in the West Coast Conference standings. Jose Vizcaino, Jr., the son of former MLB player Jose Vizcaino, leads the Broncos with a .351 average, six home runs, 25 RBI and seven steals. TJ Braff has added three homers and driven in 22 for the team that hits .253 overall.

Stanford leads the series against Santa Clara, 135-76-1 (.640), since 1959. The Cardinal has won six of the last seven, including four straight on the road, dating back to 2011.
