Stanford Completes Nonconference Play

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford concludes its nonconference schedule Wednesday at 5 p.m. (PT) when it plays host to Saint Mary’s.

The Cardinal (16-25, 1-11 Pac-12) has won its past two nonconference games and looks to end a six-game losing streak when it takes on the Gaels (16-27, 1-5 WCC).

Stanford is coming off a challenging weekend, dropping all three games against No. 9/8 UCLA. Despite the losses, the Cardinal played sound defense and battled throughout the weekend.

Hanna Winter paced Stanford with a .375 batting average (3-for-8) with a walk. Bessie Noll provided plenty of power going 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and a walk.

The Cardinal was limited in pitching options due to injuries and five different Stanford position players saw time in the circle. Kylie Sorenson pitched a majority of the innings (6.0), while Erin Ashby (4.0), Kayla Bonstrom (4.0), Kaitlyn Lagattuta (2.2) and Tylyn Wells (0.1) each saw time at pitcher.

Saint Mary’s went 1-2 against Santa Clara this past weekend, dropping the opener and finale but picking up an 8-2 victory in game two.

The Gaels are led offensively by Andrea Hazel who is batting .319 with 36 hits, 16 RBIs, 11 doubles, 20 runs, 11 walks and two home runs. Hailey Sparacino and Lujane Mussadi have also had nice seasons at the plate, hitting .287 and .286 , respectively.

Mussadi (5-15) has logged a majority of the time in the circle and holds a 4.35 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 26 walks. Katie Moss has also contributed a significant amount of time at pitcher, throwing 103.1 innings with 113 strikeouts and 52 walks.

Following Stanford’s game against Saint Mary’s, the Cardinal will play host to No. 1/2 Oregon for a three-game series beginning Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
