Back in Boston

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 1 Stanford lightweight rowing team will be back in Boston for just its second weekend of racing this spring.

The Cardinal will square off in a dual with No. 4 Boston University on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. ET with the 2V8. The varsity eight race will take place at 8:40 a.m.

On Sunday some of the top lightweight teams in the nation will battle it out in the Lightweight Invite on the Charles River. Top-ranked Stanford is in a field that includes No. 2 Harvard-Radcliffe, No. 4 Boston University, No. 5 Wisconsin and No. 9 MIT.

The two varsity eight heats will take off at 7 a.m. followed by two heats of the 2V8 starting at 7:24 a.m. The two heat winners plus the next fastest time will advance to the Grand Final, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. The remaining two teams will race head-to-head in the Petite Final at 9:12 a.m. The same goes for the 2V8 with the Grand Final at 9:24 a.m. and the Petite Final at 9:36 a.m.

The Cardinal started the season off three weeks ago with a varsity eight victory at the San Diego Crew Classic, but hasn’t raced since.

Last year heading into the Lightweight Invite, Stanford hadn’t raced in two weeks, but had competed on two separate weekends before that. The Cardinal varsity eight defeated Wisconsin and BU in a three-team race and took second to Harvard-Radcliffe in a race between the top five teams in the country. The 2V8 finished third in the Lightweight Invite and a tri-meet with Wisconsin and BU.
