STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 5 Stanford women’s rowing team will be traveling to Lowell, Ore. this weekend for the Oregon State Classic on Dexter Lake.

Six teams will be competing on Saturday with races in the morning and afternoon. Joining No. 5 Stanford will be No. 8 Washington, No. 17 Louisville, Oregon State, Oregon and Minnesota.

Stanford returns to the Oregon State Classic for the second straight year. In 2014, the Cardinal ended a 19-race winning streak for the Ohio State 2V8. The varsity eight posted a pair of second place finishes behind the then-ranked No. 2 Buckeye squad.

Morning Session

The morning session will begin at 9 a.m. The Cardinal will face Washington in a dual during the morning. The first race between the two schools is between the varsity four boats at 9:45 a.m. The 2V8 race will begin at 10:15 a.m. and the final race of the morning is the varsity eights at 10:45 a.m.

The two Pac-12 schools did not race in the regular season last year, but did meet at both the Pac-12 Championships and NCAA Championships. At the conference championships, Stanford won the varsity four, 2V8 and varsity eight races for their first title in school history. Washington finished second in the team standings, nine points behind Stanford’s 44.5 points.

At the IRA Championships, Washington finished fourth in the varsity eight Grand Final and Stanford took sixth. The Cardinal beat out UW by three seconds to win the fourth heat of the varsity four prelims and advance to the semifinals. The two met again in the Grand Finals with Stanford posting its best finish in school history with second place and Washington placing fifth.

Afternoon Session

The afternoon session will feature five schools in each of the first three races. At 2:15 p.m. the varsity four race will feature Stanford, Washington, Oregon State, Louisville and Minnesota. Those five schools will also race in the 2V8 at 2:30 p.m. and the varsity eight at 2:45 p.m.

Last season Stanford defeated Oregon State each time they faced them at the Oregon State Classic and Pac-12 Championships. In a battle between the Cardinal and Cardinals’ top three boats, Stanford defeated Louisville in all three races last year at the Pac-12 Challenge. The 2V8 boats also squared off in the second heat of the prelims at NCAA Championships with Stanford placing first and Louisville fourth. The Cardinal did not see Minnesota last season.
