Softblog: A Strong Showing

Hello there Stanford softball fans! Cheese here, bringing you the latest and greatest from the team!

On Monday we wrapped up the final game of our home series against the top-ranked Oregon Ducks. And although we didn’t walk away with any wins after the weekend, each of the three games consisted of an intense matchup between pitching and hitting from both teams.

The team battled hard throughout each game and was able to compete with one of the best teams in the country.

As I mentioned earlier, our pitching staff this weekend was fantastic. We were able to limit the strong Ducks offense throughout seven innings in all three games and allowed our offense to do what it does best and put runs on the board.

Erin Ashby excelled on the mound, throwing 9.0 innings and allowing just four earned runs. She also had a great weekend at the plate, which was highlighted by a late sixth inning grand slam on Sunday to keep us in the game.

Bessie Noll also had a great weekend, batting .556 with two walks, three singles and a double. Kayla Bonstrom also continued her impressive 2015 showing at the plate, hitting .444 and a RBI. Kaitlyn Lagatutta made her first Pac-12 start on Sunday and put on a show going 2-for-4.

The team continues to work together through some tough circumstances and is learning how to compete no matter what. We continue with games this weekend in Tucson, Arizona, against the Wildcats in the hometown of our very own Kayla Bonstrom.

If you can’t make it out to the games, be sure to follow the live stats online and check in on updates through our Twitter!

Thanks again for all the constant support!

Until next time,

Cheese
