STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 1 Stanford lightweight rowing team will be in Gold River, Calif. this weekend for the WIRA Championships on Lake Natoma.

The Cardinal are back in action for the second straight weekend after putting forth a great effort in Boston against some of the top lightweight teams in the nation last weekend. The varsity eight is undefeated in five races this year and topped No. 2 Harvard-Radcliffe and No. 4 Boston University in the Grand Final of the Lightweight Invite. They also won the San Diego Crew Classic title. The 2V8 has two victories on the year and won the petite final in Boston.

Stanford will field three different boats at the WIRAs on Saturday and Sunday. The Cardinal is entered in the novice eight, open JV eight and open varsity eight.

The novice eight will be the first to race and will be in the second heat at 11:20. The JV eight race is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. and the varsity eight for the second heat at 2:50 p.m.

On Sunday the finals of the novice eight begins at 10 a.m., the JV eight final is at 11:10 a.m. and the varsity eight final is at 12:30 p.m.

Last year at the WIRA Championships the Cardinal had three boats entered and came away with the championship in the open varsity eight. Stanford took down several openweight squads for the title. The 2V8 finished fifth behind four openweight teams in its Grand Final and the coxed four placed second to UC Irvine.
