

Alex Carter • Detroit Lions
CHICAGO – Alex Carter was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. Carter was the 16th pick of the round and 80th overall.
In addition to being the first Stanford player selected by Detroit since Stanley Wilson in 2005, Carter becomes the Cardinal's first third-round choice since Sione Fua (2011).
A native of Ashburn, Virginia, Carter is working toward his degree in psychology.
As a junior in 2014, Carter played in all 13 games -- 12 as a starter -- at cornerback, recording 41 tackles (33 solo). He broke up 10 passes, had one interception and forced one fumble. Carter had six solo tackles and one pass breakup against UCLA and four tackles, one pass breakup and one interception against Oregon.
Carter was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention and Phil Steele All-Pac-12 third team selection. He also started the season on the Bednarik Award and Nagurski Award watch lists.
As a sophomore, Carter started all 13 games and collected 59 tackles (39 solo), two tackles for loss, one interception and a team-high seven pass breakups. He produced a team-best eight tackles (seven solo) against Washington State, seven against San Jose State and USC, and six against Washington and UCLA. Carter also two tackles and two pass breakups against Michigan State in the Rose Bowl.
Carter was All-Pac-12 honorable mention in 2013, and was a Phil Steele preseason All-Pac-12 second team and Athlon Sports All-Pac-12 third team pick.
During his freshman season, Carter played in all 14 games, the last eight as a starter, and recorded 46 tackles (34 solo) and three tackles for loss. He also forced a team-high three fumbles.
Carter began the season playing on special teams and contributed five kickoff returns for 110 yards. He made six tackles in an overtime win against Arizona, broke up a key third-down pass against UCLA to help clinch a victory in the Pac-12 Championship Game, and had a season-high seven tackles against in the Rose Bowl win against Wisconsin.
