STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford looks to get back to the winning side when it takes on Pacific in a two-game midweek series Monday-Tuesday. The Cardinal travels to Stockton, California Monday, before Pacific returns the favor for a Tuesday evening matchup at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond.
Stanford (11-17, 0-9 Pac-12) dropped three straight to Washington over the weekend but did get its lineup near full strength. Junior right fielder Zach Hoffpauir came back from a wrist injury that sidelined him for 23 games. Hoffpauir, who had not appeared in a game since Feb. 14, is the leading returning hitter for Stanford.
The opening day rotation continues to be sidelined for the Cardinal with Cal Quantrill, Marc Brakeman and John Hochstatter all missing the month of March. Stanford and Pacific have not announced starting pitchers for the two games. Expect the Cardinal get work for many of its staff.
Pacific (6-23, 5-7 WCC) got off to a slow start before winning five of its last 12. The Tigers, which are coached by former Cardinal great Ed Sprague, are led by junior Louis Mejia (.361/.379/.433) and senior Tyler Sullivan (.330/.410/.426). The team also features three players with 4+ home runs in junior Brett Sullivan (5), junior Gio Brusa (4) and freshman Jed Sprague (4), the son of Ed.
Stanford has won eight straight against Pacific dating back to 2010. The Cardinal is 62-9-1 (.858) against the Tigers since 1959.
