STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford grew stronger when it added three players to the Class of 2019, as announced Tuesday by head coach Rachel Hanson.
The Cardinal welcomes incoming freshmen Carolyn Lee, Lauren Frost and Molly Fowkes.
“I’m excited to welcome this class to The Farm, as they’ll contribute in some crucial positions,” said Hanson.
“Carolyn will immediately help to bolster our pitching staff as a pitcher that attacks the zone and keeps hitters off balance. Lauren is a smooth fielding middle infielder with a unique background as a baseball player. Molly is a quick outfielder and a lefty slapper who has to the potential to provide a great additional lefty-look in our lineup.”
Lee will travel across the Bay to join the Cardinal from San Ramon, California, where she played at Dougherty Valley High School. She was a three-year captain, two-time all-league selection and an all-section honoree. Lee played club ball with Lady Magic and claimed a Boulder Independence Day Tournament championship.
Lee served as her high school’s Senior Class President, is a National Honor Society member and earned the Dougherty Valley High School Scholar-Athlete Award.
Frost makes the trek to The Farm from Eagle River, Alaska, where she played baseball at Eagle River High School and for the American Legion Eagle River Wolves. She was named 2014 Cook Inlet Conference First Team All-Conference at second base, 2013-14 First Team All-USA Alaska Baseball and a 2014 First Team All-State Infield selection.
Frost boasts a 4.23 GPA and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude honors. She also received the United States Army reserve National Scholar-Athlete Award.
Fowkes joins Stanford from nearby Loomis, California, where she will graduate from Del Oro High School. She is a three-time Sierra Foothills First-Team All-League selection and two-time Sacramento Bee All-Metro Area Team honoree. Fowkes played club ball for the Lady Magic and placed fifth at the PGF Premier National Championships in 2012 and 2014.
Along with her brother Jimmy, Fowkes was a top national grass roots fundraiser for the LIVESTRONG Foundation, raising over $250,000 for cancer advocacy over the past nine years. Fowkes also served as the president of her high school’s Women’s Athletics Club.
The trio joins a resilient Stanford team that battled through a number of injuries and adversity during the 2015 season. Despite the challenges, the Cardinal managed to pick up victories against NCAA Tournament teams No. 3/4 Alabama, No. 24/23 Arizona State, RV/25 Texas, Utah and Weber State.
