STANFORD, Calif. – Five Stanford runners were named to the Capital One Men’s and Women’s Track and Field/Cross Country Academic All-District 8 first teams.
For the men, gradaute student Michael Atchoo received his honor for cross country, grad student Marco Bertolotti for cross country and indoor track, and senior Luke Lefebure for indoor and outdoor track.
For the women, sophomore Emma Fisher was honored for cross country and fifth-year senior Jessica Tonn for indoor and outdoor track.
The honors take into account performances in races and cumulative grade-point averages. Freshmen or first-year transfer students are not eligible.
Atchoo finished 29th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, earning All-America honors and helping Stanford to second place as a team. Atchoo is a six-time All-America and Stanford’s indoor mile record holder.
Bertolotti, a 2014 indoor first-team All-America, was a miler and regular on the distance medley relay. He, Atchoo, and Lefebure made up three-fourths of Stanford’s 2014 NCAA champion DMR team.
Lefebure, an NCAA 800-meter outdoor finalist last year, competes this weekend at the NCAA West Prelims, in a quest to return to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Lefebure recently was named Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men’s track and field.
Fisher, an earth systems major, carries a 3.99 GPA. She was All-West Region in cross country and Stanford’s No. 2 runner at the NCAA Championships, helping the Cardinal to a 14th-place finish. Fisher also was a Pac-12 All-Academic first-team selection.
Tonn is the national leader in the 5,000 meters heading into the NCAA West Prelims. She repeated as Pac-12 10,000-meter champion and was named the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s track and field.
