Pair Earns Pac-12 Honors

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford freshman Marisa Kwiatkowski and fifth-year senior Jessica Tonn were named Pac-12 women's track and field athletes of the week -- Tonn for track and Kwiatkowski for field.

Tonn, from Paradise Valley, Arizona, ran the fastest 5,000 meters by a collegian this year and became the No. 7 American collegian ever, running 15:18.85 at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on Saturday.

Tonn finished 13th in a loaded field that included an Olympic silver medalist and featured 15 runners under the World Championships qualifying standard, including Tonn. She broke her personal record by 14 seconds and moved past three-time NCAA outdoor 5,000-meter champion Lauren Fleshman into No. 2 on Stanford's all-time list and No. 2 in Pac-12 history.

Kwiatkowski, a product of Santa Clara's Wilcox High, jumped personal record distances in the long and triple jumps at the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday.

A dual citizen of the U.S. and the Philippines, her 41-7 (12.67 meters) in the triple jump was third and would have improved upon her own Philippines junior record if it had not been aided by a 2.2 meters per second wind. She did have a wind-legal jump of 41-5, just off her junior national record of 41-5 1/4. Kwiatkowski also jumped a personal best of 19-4 (5.89m) -- her best by nearly four inches -- to finish 10th in the long jump.
