STANFORD NOTES

This is Stanford's tenth NCAA Tournament appearance. The Cardinal is 16-9 in the tourney.

Stanford is 19-1 away from Maples Pavilion this season. This is the Cardinal's first loss of the season away from Maples Pavilion.

This was the second time Stanford reached the NCAA Tournament regional final under coach Mike Montgomery. The Cardinal advanced to the Final Four in 1998 by winning the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional.

Sophomore Casey Jacobsen set the Stanford single-season record for three-pointers with his first trey of the afternoon. He now has 84 on the season. The old record was held by Dion Cross, who knocked down 82 treys during the 1994-95 campaign.

Only seven times have the Cardinal trailed at halftime. They now have a 5-2 mark in those contests, after trailing 42-32 at halftime of today's contest. Their two losses this season when trailing at halftime were against UCLA and Maryland. The largest halftime deficit that Stanford overcame this season was 13 points to Duke. Stanford defeated Duke in the Pete Newell Classic, 84-83.

After shooting 62.8% (27-for-43) from the floor in the win against Cincinnati, Stanford shot a season-low 41.1% (23-for-56) against Maryland in today's game.

Jacobsen is the sixth Cardinal to post over 600 points in a single-season. He currently stands at 616 points.

Ryan Mendez, who leads the nation in free-throw percentage at 93.1% (94-for-101), had made 15 consecutive free throws before missing at the 6:51 mark of the first half of today's game.

The Cardinal went without a field goal for six minutes and 41 seconds (8:44 to 2:03) of the first half, before Teyo Johnson ended the spell with a short turnaround in the key.

The Cardinal broke their single season record for free throws made, increasing their total to 671. The old mark of 663 was set during the 1983-84 season.

Stanford began the second half with a 7-0 run to cut Maryland's lead to 42-39.

Stanford established a single-season record for field goals made after connecting on 23-of-56 attempts

in today's game. The Cardinal finished the season with 953, breaking the old mark of 930 set by the 1997-98 team. The Cardinal set a school record for most points scored in single-season. Stanford has 2,829 points, breaking the old record of 2,807 points during the 1997-98 campaign.

The 87 points scored by Maryland is the most points given up by Stanford this season. The previous high was 83 by Duke on Dec. 21, 2000.

MARYLAND NOTES

This season, the Terrapins are 23-7 in games when they lead at the half. Maryland is 1-2 in NCAA Regional Championship Finals. This is Maryland's first-ever trip to a Final Four under head coach Gary Williams and the first in school history.

Lonny Baxter recorded his second-highest point total in an NCAA Tournament game with 24 points against Stanford. He set his personal-best with 26 points in the win over Georgetown in the regional semifinal game.

The Terrapins are now 18-4 in games when outrebounding their opponent. Maryland has now won 10 of its last 11 games.

The Terrapins have posted a record of 8-7 against nationally-ranked opponents, the most nationally-ranked opponents they have faced in one season.

The Terrapins have beaten seven of their last eight ranked opponents this season. They have beaten eight ranked opponents total this season, which is a school record.

Maryland has posted four wins over top 10 programs this season. The Terrapins have posted wins over Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia and Stanford. Maryland shot only one free throw in the first half, but made five of their seven three-point attempts.

The Terrapins responded with a 9-0 run to increase their lead to 51-39, immediately after Stanford opened the second half with a 7-0 run to cut its deficit to 42-39.

Maryland's nine three-pointers today were the most since connecting on 10 treys against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Dec. 30, 2000.

The Terrapins were 6-for-29 from three-point range in their first three NCAA Tournament games. Today, they connected on 9-of-13 from three-point territory. The Terrapins tied a season-high for single-game three-point percentage, hitting 69.2% (9-of-13). They also shot 69.2% (9-of-13) against Pennsylvania on Dec. 9, 2000.

Maryland's Tahj Holden equalled a career-high with three three-pointers in today's game.

Center Lonny Baxter set a new Maryland record for most points in a single NCAA Tournament with 71 points. The old record was held by John Lucas, when he scored 70 points in three games during the 1975 NCAA Tournament. Baxter established a new Maryland record for most rebounds in career NCAA Tournament games with 76 rebounds. The old record was held by Joe Smith, when he grabbed 73 boards over six games.

Maryland shot above 50 percent for the third time in four games in the 2001 NCAA Tournament.

The Terrapins have reached 25 victories for the third straight season.
