Karl Ziehn enters his eighth year as an assistant coach during the 2019-20 season after helping guide the Cardinal to the 2019 national championship.

Ziehn coaches all six of the competitive apparatuses, assists in teaching new skills and helps develop efficient routine constructions for the team. Ziehn is involved with all aspects of the recruiting process from first contact thru official visits. Additionally, Ziehn is responsible for all team travel logistics, training calendars, strength lists and National Team Events.

Ziehn is a contributor to the Development and Outreach Team for the College Gymnastics Association. Ziehn has been a presenter at USA National Team Camps and at the USA Gymnastics Congress. Ziehn has also served at the Meet Director of the Stanford Open since 2014 and directs all Stanford Men's Gymnastics Summer Camps.

Ziehn regularly attends USA National Team Camps and has considerable International experience. In 2015 Ziehn accompanied USA National Team Members to Anadia, Portugal as a coach for the Anadia Challenger Cup. Recently, in 2017 Ziehn was the USA Head Coach at the World University Games in Taipei City, Taipei where the USA Team finished 7th.

Before Stanford, Ziehn served as head coach for the competitive Boys Gymnastics and Trampoline Teams at Wallers' GymJam Academy in Los Angeles where he placed numerous athletes on the Trampoline and Tumbling US National Team from 2003-2010. In 2009, Ziehn was selected as the USA Head Coach for Power Tumbling at the Canada Cup and CanAm Cup. Ziehn was also designated USA Head Coach for Double Mini Tramp at the 2009 World Age Group Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia. Ziehn's young athletes won a total of four gold medals at the 2007, 2009 and 2010 World Age Group Championships as well as several USA titles from 2005-2010.

A 2003 graduate of California with a B.A. in Environmental Science, Ziehn served as team captain and competed on floor, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar.

Ziehn and his wife, Marina, have three children.
