  • Earned second-team All-America honors for running the third leg on Stanford's 12th-place distance medley relay team at the NCAA Championships.
  • Lost a shoe on the exchange and later had a fall during his NCAA debut.
  • Ran a 1:48.7 split on Stanford's second place distance medley relay team at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
  • The team ran 9:28.72, the No. 3 time in Stanford history and fast enough to get Smith into his first NCAA Championships.
  • Ran the 800 leg of Stanford's second-place distance medley relay team at the Penn State National Open.
  • Set indoor 800 personal best of 1:50.72 at the Husky Classic.

  • An American half-miler who attended the International School of Amsterdam.
  • Has a personal record of 1:51.95 in the 800, which placed among the top 15 U.S. high school juniors in 2014.
  • Ran for The International School of Amsterdam and the Dutch club AV Startbaan.
  • Two-time USATF Junior Olympic All –American in the 800.
  • Second at the 2014 USATFJunior Olympic nationals and third in 2013.
  • Dutch national age-group 800 champion as a 15-year-old.
  • Averaged 22 points per game in basketball as team captain and was the Northern European independent high school tournament MVP.

Personal:

  • Parents Steven Smith and Peggy Brannigan met at Stanford.
  • Brian's sister, Shannon (’15, co-term ’16), was the setter on the Stanford team that won the 2015 National Club Volleyball 1AA Silver national championship.
  • Father, Steven Smith, is an astronaut, flying on four Space Shuttle missions between 1994-2002.
  • Steven also played on two of Stanford’s NCAA championship water polo teams, in 1978 and 1980, and is a San Jose native.
  • Majoring in biology.
