Volunteer assistant coach Erik Maurer enters his eighth season with the Cardinal in the fall of 2013. His efforts and insight on the pool deck has been a big reason behind Stanford's success the last six campaigns, and will continue to help Maurer's alma mater reach national prominence.

Maurer has been coaching with his wife, Lea, since 1996, working with both Lake Forest High School and Scout Aquatics prior to his current role at Stanford. He served as Lea's coach from 1997-2000, helping her to a 1998 World Championship win in the 100 meter back, where she set a new American record (1:00.77) in the process. The Cardinal had its highest finish since he returned to the farm, finishing as the national runner-up in 2010. They have never finished lower than fifth at any of the seven NCAA Championships, winning the two Pac-10 titles in 2010 and 2011.

Maurer had an outstanding collegiate career at Stanford (1990-94), which was highlighted by a victory in the 50 free at the 1992 NCAA Championships. Maurer was also a member of five NCAA champion relay teams, including a pair of American record performances and two NCAA team titles in 1992 and 1993. He was named Stanford's team MVP in 1990-91 and co-MVP in 1991-92.

"Erik's knowledge of the sport and his presence on the deck is unmatched," says head coach (and wife) Lea Maurer. "His intellect and his energy are an integral part of our success, and he constantly offers insights into how we can improve our squad."

After earning a Bachelor's degree in history from Stanford in 1993 and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1998, Maurer began work with Prospect Partners in 1998 and became a Principal partner of the Firm in 2000. Prospect Partners is a Chicago-based private equity firm focused on leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations of niche companies with $10 to $40 million in revenue.
