Alex Dunphy joined the Stanford staff as The Kimberly and Berverly Oden Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach in March 2022. She enters her third season with the Cardinal in 2024.

Dunphy has helped guide Stanford to a pair of Pac-12 titles as well as its 16th and 17th NCAA regional final appearances (2022, 2023). The Cardinal has produced five AVCA All-Americans, who have collected seven total honors, two Pac-12 Player of the Year awards (Kendall Kipp), two Pac-12 Setter of the Year awards (Kami Miner) and two Pac-12 Libero of the Year awards (Elena Oglivie) with Dunphy on the sidelines. Stanford has also had three College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-Americans earning four total honors.

In the summer of 2024, Dunphy helped lead the U.S. Women's U21 National Team to a gold medal at the NORCECA Continental Championship in Toronto as an assistant coach, featuring Cardinal outside hitter Julia Blyashov.

In December 2023 and May 2024, Dunphy served as the U19/U20 National Team Development Program Head Coach.

Dunphy came to The Farm after spending the 2020 and 2021 seasons as the associate head coach at Auburn. In 2021, she helped guide the Tigers to the most program wins since 2017 and the most SEC victories since 2018. Auburn’s 6-0 start to the 2021 season was its best since 2012.

Prior to her time at Auburn, Dunphy served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, USC, during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. She helped lead the program to consecutive NCAA second round appearances and a runner-up finish in the Pac-12 in 2018.

Before joining the Women of Troy, Dunphy served as the assistant director of operations and video coordinator at Minnesota in 2017. She had previously been an assistant coach at Pepperdine (2014-16) and also served as an assistant coach at Miami in 2013. Prior to her stop in Miami, Dunphy held the office of director of operations with the Pepperdine men’s volleyball program.

Dunphy grew up in Malibu and is the daughter of Hall of Fame coach Dr. Marv Dunphy who headed the men’s program at Pepperdine for four decades. He won multiple medals as a member of the USA Men’s and Women's National Team coaching staffs, including gold medals at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Dunphy has extensive experience with USA Volleyball. In July of 2021, she was an assistant coach for USA Volleyball U15/16 National Team Development Program. She also added a stint as an assistant coach for USA Volleyball U16/U17 National Team Development Program in December of 2021.

In December 2019, Dunphy served as an assistant coach for the Girls Youth Holiday Training Program at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was the technical coordinator for the USAV Collegiate National Team in the summer of 2017, when the squad competed in Thailand and was an assistant coach for the 2016 USAV Collegiate National Team that competed in China.

Dunphy also served as the Head of Delegation for the 2012 U.S. Women's Junior National Team during the squad's run at the NORCECA U20 Continental Championship in Managua Nicaragua. That year, Team USA won bronze medals and earned a bid to the 2013 FIVB Women's Junior Continental Championship.

Dunphy played collegiately for the Women of Troy in 2003 and 2004, winning an NCAA title as a freshman. She graduated from USC with a degree in communication from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in 2007. She earned her master's degree in communication from Pepperdine in 2015.
