Olson assists in all facets of the program including, but not limited to running training sessions and team tactics to scouting opponents for game day preparation. Gregg also manages the video aspect of the Stanford practices and games.
Olson came to Stanford from the University of Vermont where he served as the first assistant to the 2007 America East Conference champions.
The Catamounts reached the conference tournament during four of Olson's five seasons on the coaching staff, and advanced to the NCAA tournament his final season, reaching the second round for the second time in school history.
A native of Rockford, IL, Olson graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Geography from the University of Vermont, where he was a four-year starter and team captain as a senior. Olson also was a three-time winner of the team's Donoson Fitzgerald Award for Perseverance, Integrity and Sportsmanship.
Following college, Olson played for the Vermont Voltage of the Premier Development League before reaching the A-League, the top rung of the United Soccer Leagues minor-league system, with the Milwaukee Rampage.
Olson began his coaching career in 2002 at Hononegah High School in Rockton, IL, before returning to the University of Vermont a year later. He spent five seasons as an assistant coach with the Catamounts.
Olson holds his NSCAA Premier Diploma and NSCAA National Youth Diploma. He was the coach of the Santa Clara Sporting '91 team that won multiple CYSA and NorCal State Cups, US Club Regionals, as well as Champions of the prestigious San Diego Surf Cup. In Vermont, he coached the boys Under-17 Olympic Development Program and served as assistant coaching director for the Nordic Soccer Club.
Olson and his wife, Sarah, and their two year old son, Palmer, live in Menlo Park.
