Stanford Prevails Despite Adversity

April 21, 1999

STANFORD, Calif. - With four key players battling the flu, Stanford couldn't take this game lightly. Even in the face of adversity, the Cardinal prevailed.

The first half was dominated by the Stanford fast break. Goals were converted by Katharine Barnes and Jenny Silverman to give Stanford the substantial lead.

The pace of the second half changed and Stanford looked to run their plays and convert from there. The team ran the plays in textbook fashion.

NEXT UP: Santa Barbara, April 25th @ 2pm

The last time Stanford came up against UCSB was in the semi-final game of the WWLL Final Four in San Diego last May. At halftime of that game, the score was tie (8-8). The Cardinal saw its dreams of a championship slipping away. But then, the team pulled together and came out on fire in the second half and played as they were capable of playing. The final score was 19-12 and the Cardinal was headed toward the final game of the WWLL Champsionships.

This weekends game against UCSB is the perfect stepping stone for the playoffs, May 1st. It gives us a chance to test the water to see what the teams from the south are capable of. Are they strong? How should we strategize to play them in the championships? Going to Santa Barbara this weekend we enable us to answer all of these questions.
