STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford Women's Gymnastics Team recorded three perfect 10s, the first in school history, and broke five school records in a nonconference meet at Stanford's Burnham Pavilion on Friday night. Senior Amy Murakami had two of the perfect scores (Bars & Floor), while senior Tracey Kohl added another perfect mark in the floor exercise. With those scores, Stanford went on to defeat Massachusetts 197.275-193.150. The Cardinal's team score tonight broke the previous school record of 196.800, which was set two years ago at Utah on February 7, 1999. The Cardinal also broke team records on the bars (49.625) and floor (49.625). The previous record in the bars was 49.475 (Jan. 29, 1999) while the previous high on the floor was 49.475 (Feb. 7, 1997).
Stanford dominated the whole meet as it outscored the Minutewomen on every event. In fact, the Cardinal took the top three spots on every event, including the uneven bars, where Stanford held the top five spots.
Murakami's record breaking performances helped her win three event titles tonight - the all-around (39.625), bars and floor. With those three titles, Murakami has now won ten individual titles this year. Sophomore Jen Exaltacion also helped the Cardinal as she finshed first in the balance beam (9.925) and placed second in the bars (9.925) and vault (9.800). Exaltacion's beam title was her fifth title in nine meets this season.
The next meet for the Cardinal is Saturday, February 20 when the team travels to Corvallis, Oregon for the Pac-10 Championships. The starting time of the meet is 7:00 pm at Gill Coliseum.
