TUCSON, Ariz. - Todd Husak threw for 364 yards and freshman KerryCarter rushed for three touchdowns Saturday night as Stanford routed the19th-ranked Arizona Wildcats 50-22.

The Cardinal (2-1 overall, 2-0 Pac-10) rolled for 580 yards against a teamthat had been the overwhelming preseason favorite for the Pac-10 title.

Troy Walters, in a spectacular receiving duel with Arizona's DennisNorthcutt, caught eight passes for 168 yards. He had seven catches for 164yards in the first half.

Northcutt caught eight for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Stanford blew open a 30-7 halftime lead, fought off a rally by the Wildcatsin the third quarter, then put the game away with three touchdowns in the firstfive minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Cardinal, beaten 69-17 by Texas in its opener, has outscored Pac-10opponents Washington State and Arizona by a combined 104-39 on consecutiveSaturdays.

Arizona (2-2, 0-1), No. 4 in the preseason rankings coming off last season's12-1 record, displayed weak defense in a season-opening 41-7 loss to PennState, and it was even worse against Stanford.

Husak, who completed 21 of 35 passes on the night and ran 1 yard for ascore, threw for 268 yards in the first half as Stanford amassed 347 yards.Stanford's Tim Smith intercepted three passes in the first half, and theCardinal turned two of them into touchdowns.

Ortege Jenkins, who completed 15 of 23 passes for 200 yards and threetouchdowns but was sacked five times, threw touchdown passes of seven and 15yards to Northcutt in the third quarter.

On the second touchdown, Northcutt caught the ball in the backfield, thenran back to his left and raced into the end zone. Jenkins ran for the 2-pointconversion to cut the lead to 30-22 with 1:01 left in the third quarter.

Husak drove the Cardinal 65 yards in five plays, capped by a 10-yardtouchdown pass to Dave Davis. The kick failed and Stanford led 36-22 with 12:49to play. The Cardinal put the game away with touchdown runs of 49 yards byCasey Moore and 44 yards by Cory Wire.

Arizona took a 7-0 lead in the game's first 1:44 on a 21-yard pass fromJenkins to Brad Brennan. Stanford scored the next 30 points, the first 24 in aspan of 11 minutes, 14 seconds.

Carter had touchdown runs of 5, 8 and 3 yards.

Keith Smith replaced Jenkins briefly in the second quarter. Smith's firstpass was intercepted by Tim Smith and returned 19 yards to the Arizona 20.Carter needed just two carries to score.

Trailing 24-7, Arizona drove from its 35 to the Stanford 1, but failed ontwo attempts to punch it in. Stanford went 99 yards in 11 plays for its finaltouchdown of the half, on Carter's 3-yard run with 2:12 to play.
