Women's Gymanstics Blanks BYU 197.05-195.425

Senior Larissa Fontaine broke the school record in the all-around competition and scored a perfect 10 on the floor in Stanford's 197.05-195.425 victory over BYU Monday night. Fontaine recorded a 39.825 in the all-around which broke the school record, previously set at 39.675. Her all-around score is also the highest score recorded in the NCAA so far this season.

Monday's meet marked the second time in a row that Fontaine has swept the competition, taking first place in every event. She also swept the meet against Cal on Friday, Feb. 18. Against BYU, Fontaine scored a 9.95 on the vault and the bars, a 9.925 on the beam, and a perfect 10 on the floor.

Other top performances for the Cardinal included freshman Alissa Cooper, who scored a 9.825 on the vault for second place. Sophomore Katy Herbert recorded a 9.9 on the balance beam for second place, and junior Jen Exaltacion took third on the beam with a 9.875. Senior Sarah Harding took second on the floor with a score of 9.95. Freshman Abby Gair and sophomore Katy Herbert both recorded new career-high scores in the all-around competition, Gair with a 39.475 and Herbert with a 39.2.

After defeating BYU, the Cardinal improved its record to 7-2 overall. Stanford will continue the 2000 season on Friday, Feb. 25 at Oregon State.
