Stanford, CA - The Stanford men's and women's rowers will travel to San Diego this weekend to compete in the Crew Classic on April 1-2. Scheduled to compete for the Cardinal are the men's and women's varsity eights, junior varsity eights, and novice eights. Collegiate racing begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday and 8:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The Stanford men's varsity eight will compete in the Copley Cup. Saturday's heats begin at 8:20 a.m. The top three finishers in each heat will advance to the Grand Final on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The varsity men will be seeking a spot in the Grand Final after finishing first in last year's Copley Cup Petite Final. Scheduled to compete in Saturday's heats are:

The Cardinal varsity women will race in the Cal Cup heats that begin at 7:20 a.m. on Saturday. The first-place finisher in each heat plus the next two fastest times will advance to the Grand Final on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. Last year, Stanford finished third behind San Diego State and UC Davis. Teams scheduled to compete in this year's Cal Cup include:

Other Stanford boats scheduled to compete on Saturday include the men's novice eight at 9:30 a.m., the women's junior varsity eight at 10:00 a.m., the men's junior varsity eight at 10:40 a.m., and the women novice eight at 11:15 a.m.
Stanford Hospitality Tent
The Stanford Alumni Association of San Diego will again host a hospitality tent on Sunday, April 2 along the Crew Classic course. Coffee, juice, muffins, and fruit will be available at 8:00 am. A barbecue will begin at 11:00 a.m. Stanford alumni, parents, and friends of Stanford Crew are invited to attend.

The Kent Mitchell Rowing Club eight, regularly filled with Stanford Crew alumni, will attempt to win another masters rowing title at this year's Crew Classic. The KMRC boat will be competing in the Men's Masters F/E race scheduled to start at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, April 2. Scheduled to compete are former Stanford rowers Kent Mitchell '61, Dick Lyon '61, Ed Ferry '63, Dick Draeger '59, current Stanford men's coach Wieslaw Kujda, and friends of Stanford Crew Andy Kerr, Charlie Alterkruse, Fargo Thompson and Jim Edmonds. Eight of the nine boat members have participated in the Olympics and/or World Championships and six were medallists.
