Stanford, Calif. -- Four Stanford women's tennis players and head coach Frank Brennan received recognition for their success during the 1999-2000 tennis season.
Brennan received the Wilson/ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year honors after leading his team to a 30-1 record and second place at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships. Brennan also won the award in 1998.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association also honored freshman Laura Granville as the Northwest Rookie of the Year, while senior Jennifer Heiser received the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship award for the Northwest Region. Sophomore Lauren Kalvaria earned the Northwest Player to Watch award after posting a career-high 41 victories this season.
Sophomore Marissa Irvin was honored for her work both on the court and in the classroom with her selection to the GTE Academic All-American District VIII Second Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. In order to be eligible for the Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be a significant contributor to the team.
