STANFORD
Head Coach Mark Marquess:
(on the win): "I was very pleased with the win. It was very tight throughoutthe game. I thought Jason (Young) pitched fantastic. We had some key hitsand those are important in games like this. I was impressed with their arms. They're very scary. They have a lot of power up and down their lineup. Ithought the difference in the game was our key hits."
(on taking control of the game early): "I was hoping to do that with the 4-0lead. I thought we had an opportunity to break it open. Their two-run homerput them right back in the game. I was impressed. They weren't going to rollover.
(on Stanford's previous College World Series experience): "It's always anadvantage to have played here before. I have found that it takes a game ortwo to get your feet on the ground, especially if its your first time here. One play or even one swing of the bat can relax a team. The players who havebeen here know what to expect."
Starting Pitcher Jason Young:
(on the early lead): "Getting the early lead was huge. It gave me theopportunity to jump ahead of hitters more and to pitch a little less fine."
(on the home runs he allowed): "I knew what I was doing. I left a couple ofpitches over the plate and left a couple up. I knew I could make theadjustments."
Centerfielder Edmund Muth:
(on Stanford's previous College World Series experience): "It can only helpyou. You learn whatever you do won't hurt you because one pitch can changeyour whole game. Since you've been here before you know you can come back>from anything."
Rightfielder Joe Borchard:
(on the home runs by Borchard and Muth): "When Edmund and I came up and hitthe home runs, they (Louisiana-Lafayette) were trying to make a comeback. Ithink the home runs helped put the game out of reach, especially Edmund's."
