Chris Lewis is the first redshirt freshman quarterback to start for Stanford since Chad Hutchinson started all 11 games in the '96 season.Prior to this afternoon, the last time Stanford had been held scoreless in the first half was game #6 of the '99 season against Oregon State (October 16). The Cardinal trailed 7-0 at the half, but came back to win 21-17.Stanford is now 4-6 in its last 10 Pac-10 home openers, including a 3-3 record under Tyrone Willingham.Stanford's Ryan Fernandez made his team-high third interception late in the second quarter - he entered Saturday's contest 10th in the country and first in the Pac-10 with 0.67 interceptions per contest.Place kicker Mike Biselli took over the punting chores in the second quarter for Sean Tolpinrud, marking his second career appearance at punter. He finished the contest with six kicks for a 38.0 yard average. His only other punting experience came last season at USC (October 23).Arizona has now won five consecutive games at Stanford Stadium dating back to a 23-13 victory on October 31, 1987. The Cardinal has been held to 14 points or less in each of those contests. On the season, Arizona has outscored the opposition 43-6 on points off turnovers.In just his second appearance of the year, WR Brad Brennan collected a 36-yard TD on his first reception of the season. Brennan, who missed two games due to injury and played just one play vs. Ohio State, tallied his 12th career TD reception. The scoring play was UA's second longest TD pass of the season.Arizona's 13-point first quarter scoring output was its best opening quarter effort of the year and second best overall quarter of the season. Only a 17-point third quarter at Utah topped the effort. With DE Idris Haroon's 32-yard fumble return for a TD, Arizona has now scored defensive points in all four games this year. UA opened the year with a fumble return for a score at Utah, recorded a safety vs. Ohio State, and blocked a punt for a score vs. San Diego State.Freshman TB Clarence Farmer recorded the first 100-yard rushing game of his career and UA's first this season. He finished with 116 yards on 18 carries and scored one touchdown. Stanford's 245 yards in total offense is the lowest since the Cardinal gained 234 yards in a 28-17 loss to North Carolina on 9-13-97. Stanford's 177 yards passing is the lowest since the Cardinal threw for 166 yards in a 34-9 loss to USC on 11-7-98. Stanford's six turnovers today (two interceptions, four fumbles lost) were the most by a Cardinal team during the Tyrone Willingham Era (1995-00) and the most since Stanford committed seven turnovers (four interceptions, three fumbles) in a 27-24 loss to Arizona in Tucson on October 16, 1993.
