Cardinal Closes Homestand With A Victory

March 11, 2001

Stanford, CA -- The Cardinal finished up this week's three-game homestand with a 15-10 win over the Bucknell Bison. Stanford dominated from the opening whistle, scoring the first 6 goals of the game. They went into halftime ahead 9-3, with 4 of the 9 goals off free-position shots. The Cardinal scored 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, but the Bison came back from a timeout with renewed confidence. Bucknell scored 7 goals during the rest of the half, but the closest they would ever be was 5 goals down.

Leading the team again was senior tri-captain Katharine Barnes who scored 5 goals and had 4 draw controls. Barnes led the team in scoring in every game this week and now has 21 goals this season. Freshman Abbi Hills added 3 goals today and also had 4 groundballs. In her most impressive showing this year sophomore goalkeeper Rachael Neumann played all 60 minutes and tallied 21 saves in goal. Neumann has 86 saves this season and a goals-allowed-average of 6.99.

The Cardinal is 7-1 overall this season and 3-0 WWLL. After a two-week rest from games Stanford will travel to the East Coast for Spring Break for three tough games. They face Lafayette on March 25th, #15 Cornell on the 27th and Harvard on the 29th.
