Regarding if the game is called differently in the NCAA Tournament than it is in the regular season
"Yes, they let you play in the post a little more. We started off trying to take it to the basket and we had to realize the referees weren't going to give us anything. They are not going to bail you out. We have to try to adjust to that and we know that this is how it is going to be the rest of the way. Basically we're going to have to fight through it and try not to get frustrated by missed calls or anything like that."
Casey Jacobsen, Stanford, Guard/Forward
Regarding nervousness about today's game
"No we were not nervous. Anxious, yes. We have been waiting a lot. I have had a lot of interviews in the past week and most of the questions have been about what's different about this team than the past couple of years. People talking about us getting to the Final Four and I just want to play. I just want to get out there. Let's take one game at a time. It was a nice first step for this basketball team to reach our goals and St. Joseph's is a very good basketball team. Excited again to play on Saturday. I just want to play the game, that is the best part."
Regarding what can been done to prepare itself for the second round game and avoid the past year's disappointment
"My best answer to that question is probably a boring one, in that, we just need to play Stanford basketball. I wasn't there two years ago when we lost to Gonzaga and so I can only answer for last year. Last year what happened to us we did not make plays down the stretch. It was a pretty low scoring game. Stanford and North Carolina, two offensive teams that could put it in the hole and didn't. We didn't make the plays in the end and in this NCAA Tournament, the difference between a No. 1 ranked team and a No. 1 seeded team like us and everybody else is very little. And it sometimes gets exaggerated in the media or everybody is writing about how little of a chance UNC-Greensboro has today. But, when you play on the basketball floor just because that team doesn't have all the notoriety that we have that they can't make a three pointer or they can't drive past you.If we have that minutes that we're not going to underestimate anybody then we can do some great things in the tournament. We are as talented as anybody. If we haven't proven that, I don't know what else we can do.
Ryan Mendez, Stanford, Forward
Regarding Casey Jacobsen's technical foul
"I'm glad he got it. I didn't agree with a lot of the calls tonight either. What it does is tell us even though we are playing a 16-seed, we are not going to back down. If anything, we are going to be more aggressive. I think that set the tone and got the rest of the team going a little bit."
Regarding team's approach going into second round
"I think we have learned from the past. If we are not on top of our game, we are going to be headed home. I'm going to do everything in my power and with the older guys to get us ready to play and to know how hard we are going to have to fight and scrap to beat a very good St. Joseph's team."
