Texas Longhorns

Head Coach Augie Garrido
Opening Statement: The game was a very well played game, I thought that on both sides the pitchers did a goodjob of keeping the hitters off balance. And then we had one inning, we got a rally going and sustained therally - we had some timely hitting, including the run that won the game, we got the two-run homerun, we gotour ninth hitter Tim Moss to drive in the fourth run with two outs and that proved to be the difference. Ithink Albert Montes did his part. I think the Stanford team did a great job in battling. The DH for Stanford[Jonny Ash] did a great job of staying inside that high fastball with two outs and driving into left field. They got the second and third runs in and then missed the big hit - that was the difference in the gamefinally. We had an opportunity with a runner on third and their second baseman [Chris O'Riordan] made a greatdefensive play. We had runners on third with less than two outs twice and their pitchers did a great job andtookour hitters out of it. They were just one big hit away from tying or one big hit away from winning.

Q: Do you think you're surprising anybody with the win?
A: Yes, because whenever you're the third-seed and you beat the second and first-seed you at least surprisethe committee, I don't know how far it goes beyond that, I don't think it surprised people on our team. Thisis a team that's matured during the season, we've had 13 one-run losses and we're better now than we were atthe beginning of the season.

Q: How was your comfort level knowing that you'd faced Stanford before?
A: Well throughout the year I've been really tough on righties and they have a ton of righties in theirlineup. All their hitters are great hitters, and luckily it worked out when we played them back in Austin. Ijust focused and got the hitters out, but they're still a great ball club. You've just got to take itone-by-one, no matter what happens.
