BERKELEY, Calif. - Senior Derek Shanahan's penalty kick in the 60th minute gave the Cardinal a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Loyola Marymount Friday afternoon in the opening match of the adidas Cal Legacy Classic in Berkeley, Calif.

Stanford (3-0) recorded its third straight shutout to open the season. The Cardinal defense held strong for most of the game, and also outshot Loyola Marymount 15-7 on offense.

Junior goalkeeper Andrew Terris continued his strong play in goal, notching four saves on the day.

No. 11 Cal State Fullerton and host school California were scheduled to play in the second game of the day.

The Cardinal will be in action again on Sunday, Sept., when it squares off against No. 11 Cal State Fullerton at 11:30 a.m. in the adidas Cal Legacy Classic. California will face Loyola Marymount.
