Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Finding themselves tied at the half for just the second time this season, No. 2 Stanford scored two unanswered goals in the final 11 minutes to defeat San Francisco 3-1 Friday evening at Negoesco Stadium.

The Cardinal (9-0-0) kept their unbeaten record in tact, outshooting the host Dons 16-5 in the match.

The upstart Dons found the net at the 31:41 mark when Ben Stuart headed in a cross from Tom Loughborough to give San Francisco (6-4-1) a 1-0 lead. However, the Cardinal- who had trailed in a match only once prior to Friday, equalized at the 40:37 mark on a great individual effort by senior Aaron Biddle (Bordentown, N.J.), blasting an 18-yard blast past San Francisco goalkeeper Conor McNulty to tie the score at 1-1.

Stanford continued to pressure the Dons in the second half and took the lead on a goal from junior Johanes Maliza (Chicago, Ill.) at the 79:58 mark, which came following a rebound attempt from junior Roger Levesque (Portland, Maine). Levesque, who leads the Cardinal in goals scored with seven, added an insurance goal less than a minute later when he beat McNulty on a breakaway at 80:46.

Junior Andrew Terris (Newton, Mass.) played the entire game in goal for the Cardinal, while McNulty went the distance for San Francisco.

The Cardinal now sets their sights on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, where they will open their second season of Pac-10 competition against UCLA at 3 p.m.
