Box Score

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - No. 5 Stanford won its second straight game Sunday evening, upending rival Santa Clara 1-0 on the road to improve to 11-1-0 overall (1-1-0 Pac-10). The Broncos are now 6-7-0 on the season and six of their seven losses have been by 1-0 scores.

Both teams had chances to score in the opening half, with 14 of the game's 22 shots coming in the contest's first 45 minutes. Steady defense on both sides of the ball would dominate play, however, as the two teams went into halftime scoreless.

Stanford would continue to pressure the Broncos, and junior Roger Levesque (Portland, Maine) fired a shot past Santa Clara goalkeeper Steve Cronin for Stanford's first score of the game in the 71st minute, connecting off an assist from senior Aaron Biddle (Bordentown, N.J.). Levesque now has eight goals on the season for the Cardinal, and leads the team in that category. The Cardinal are now 11-0 in games in which they outshoot their opponent, as evidenced by Sunday night's 12-10 advantage.

Junior netminder Andrew Terris (Newton, Mass.) played the full 90 minutes for Stanford, making four saves while his counterpart Cronin notched five to keep the Broncos in the game.

The Cardinal returns to Maloney Field for a critical two-game homestand this weekend, beginning with Oregon State on Friday at 7:30 p.m., before Sunday's matchup against Pac-10 defending champion Washington- scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
