STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford Men's Soccer improved its Pac-10 record to 3-1 this afternoon with a win over eighth-ranked Washington. Stanford (13-1-0, 3-1 Pac-10) tallied four goals in a game for the seventh time this season, all of which were home games. The Huskies fell to 10-3-0 on the season, 2-2 in Pac-10 play.

The Cardinal took the lead early as junior Todd Dunivant (Wheat Ridge, Col.) stole the ball from the defender and then fed senior Derek Shanahan (St. Charles, Ill.) who drilled the ball past the keeper to score the first point of the day at 22:12. Freshman Darren Fernandez (Benoni, South Africa) tacked on the second goal for the Cardinal at 32:07 after stripping the defender and beating the Washington keeper Chad Olsen.

The Huskies rallied with their only goal of the day at 32:18 as Brett Wiesner took a cross and slipped it past Stanford net-minder Andrew Terris (Newton, Mass.). Stanford closed out the first half with its third goal of the day as junior Roger Levesque (Portland, Maine) took a pass from junior Johanes Maliza (Chicago, Ill.) and beat his defender before firing the ball into the net past the goalie.

The Cardinal closed out the scoring with a goal by Maliza at 50:26 off a pass from Levesque. Stanford keeper Terris recorded two saves on the day before freshman Robby Fulton (West Linn, Ore.) checked into the game, while Washignton's Olsen chalked up one before backup Daniel Waltman entered the match.

In an intensely physical game, the two teams combined for 31 fouls on the day. Stanford received one yellow card and Washington received two cautions and an ejection. The red card on the Huskies came at 69:10 against C.J. Klaas.

Stanford returns to action on Friday, Nov. 2 at Maloney Field when Pac-10 rival UCLA visits The Farm for a 7:30 p.m. match.
