STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Matt Janusz (Littleton, Col.) scored twice for No. 3 Stanford as the Cardinal shutout Fresno State 4-0 in the final game of the 5th annual Stanford/Nike Invitational Sunday afternoon at Maloney Field.

Stanford (6-0-0), which was coming off a 4-0 rout of Dartmouth on Friday, recorded its fifth shutout in six games and improved to 9-0-1 in Stanford/Nike Invitational competition. Three different players found the net for the Cardinal, who outscored the Bulldogs (3-2-3) by an 18-10 margin.

Janusz got the Cardinal on the board at the 19:38 mark, scoring the first goal of the game off an assist from Roger Levesque (Portland, Maine). The Bulldogs proceeded to outshoot Stanford 7-4 in the first half, but were unable to convert on several opportunities.

Senior Derek Shanahan (St. Charles, Ill.) scored his third goal of the season early in the second half, taking a pass from Levesque and beating Fresno State netminder Jeremy Proud to make the score 2-0. Janusz would find the net again at the 54:19 mark, recovering a loose ball and blasting it past Proud from 12 yards out. Senior Lee Morrison (Carmichael, Calif.) successfully converted on a penalty kick in the 87th minute to complete the scoring and give the Cardinal a 4-0 home victory. Stanford outshot Fresno State 14-3 in the second half, as the Cardinal continued to wear down a fatigued Bulldog defense.

Stanford goalkeeper Andrew Terris (Newton, Mass.) recorded three saves on the day, while reserve Robby Fulton (West Linn, Ore.) added another. Fresno State goalie Proud notched three saves.

Earlier in the day, California improved its record to 4-3-1 with a 3-0 victory against Dartmouth (2-3) as three different players scored in a balanced Golden Bear offensive attack.

The Cardinal returns to Maloney Field this Thursday, when it hosts rival San Jose State at 7:30 p.m.
