"It's nice to get a sweep," said Stanford head coach Marquess. "It's tough to a sweep another team, but we got a couple of big innings in the series that really hurt them. John Hudgins did a phenomenal job for us today. It helps to have somebody step up and pitch well in that third starting spot."

Stanford jumped out to a 9-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and seven more in the second.

O'Riordan led off the bottom of the first inning with a double before coming around to score on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Jason Cooper had a sacrifice fly to score Sam Fuld with the other run in the inning.

The final two runs of the inning came on an RBI single by Chris Carter and an RBI triple from Quentin.

Stanford's seven-run second inning was the ninth time the Cardinal has scored five or more runs in an inning this season.

The score remained 9-0 until the seventh inning as Hudgins faced only one batter over the minimum and did not allow a runner to reach second base through the first six innings, giving up only singles to Tony Alcantar in the first inning and Adam Leavitt to lead off the sixth.

Cal Poly got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Mustangs loaded the bases off Hudgins on a leadoff walk to Scott Anderson before singles by Kyle Wilson and Haskell.
