Boston, MA - The Stanford Women's Lacrosse team (7-6 overall, 6-0 MPLL) picked up their fourth consecutive victory and first non-league win of the season, dropping the Boston College Eagles 13-10 on the road. Following this win the Cardinal heads to New Hampshire to take on the UNH Wildcats on Sunday, April 21st at 12pm (ET).
The Cardinal's leading scorers, freshmen Kelsey Twist and Julia Calzonetti, each recorded at hat-trick, bringing them to 24 and 20 goals on the season, respectively. Junior goalkeeper Virginia Solomon played all 60 minutes in the cage notching 8 saves.
Calzonetti put the Cardinal on the board first with a goal at :46 into the first half and Twist followed with another two minutes later. The Eagles responded and matched Stanford for the rest of the half and teams went into the break tied 5-5. The Cardinal started the second half with another goal by Twist and one from senior tri-captain Liz Britt, who had 2 goals in the game. Boston College answered with a goal of their own but Stanford matched them for the rest of the half and the Eagles never got closer than 1 goal down.
Freshman Claire Calzonetti put in the game-winning goal with 7:12 left in the match and her sister Julia put in another with 3:28 left to give the Cardinal a 3-goal cushion. Also scoring goals for Stanford were sophomores Noor Dawood and Abbi Hills and freshman Nina Pantano. The Cardinal out-shot the Eagles 24-20 and also converted all 4 free-position shots, while BC converted 2 of 4.
After facing the Wildcats on Sunday, the Cardinal heads back to the West Coast to battle California in Berkeley on Saturday, April 27th, then they finish up the regular season with a match at home vs. the UC Davis Aggies on Tuesday, April 30th.
