No. 6 Stanford Women Crew Takes Three Of Four From USC

April 27, 2002

Redwood Shores, CA --The Stanford Women's Crew program defeated the USC Trojans in three out of four events on Saturday. The first varsity had its first loss of the season to a strong USC boat. The Cardinal led at the first 500 meter mark by just a few seats but couldn't hold off the charge of the USC boat. Coxswain Wendy Hoeveler stated, "We never felt in control of this race like we had in our other close races. I think this is a great wake up call for us and will help us to be ready for a top performance at the PAC-10 Championships."

The second varsity eight took an early lead and never looked back as they built a 14 second margin. Stroke Anjali Malhotra said, "This was a breakthrough race for us. We have worked really hard to put a great race together and this exactly what we were looking for to get us ready for PAC-10's in three weeks."

Both the novice eight and the varsity four took control of the race in the first 500 meters and built decisive margin over the rest of the course.

The Women's Crew is on the road this week in Seattle for the Opening Day Regatta. Real-time race coverage will be available for the events on Saturday at www.jamcotimes.com
