Stanford Quotes
Head Coach Buddy Teevens
Mindset when the game was 28-26
:"We just did not protect the football and that was the key. We were playing well on both sides, but special teams allowed a big kick off return and fumbles and interceptions followed. We had some guys that just need to put the ball on the money and need to be smart. We can?t allow people to stay in the ballgame and we did that with our turnovers."

On the Chris Lewis and Kyle Matter situation:"Chris stun his knee a bit and he could have come back. At that point we told Kyle that he would start the second half and he made some very good decisions. He really, really impressed me with his confidence. He was much more relaxed after having a game under his belt. He saw things on the field and protected the ball."

On his first home game:"I thank everyone for coming and this is a great start for us. I am really excited about the people that turned out tonight. There was a lot of enthusiasm from our guys and it has been fun to see them work that hard the past couple of weeks."

Teyo Johnson
On the game
:"I like close games personally. I like it when it is competitive and when it puts pressure on the offense. We are going to be in this situation in the future, so we might as well get used to it. We are going to have close games, so I am happy that it happened. We came out there and produced, put 63 on the board."

On the adjustments made in the second half:"We adjusted to their coverage as far as running corner routes, but we really established the run in the second half. Casey got off and J.R Lemon started playing well, so that opened up the run. They could not double-team me anymore and that opened some more things for us."

Kyle Matter
On being prepared to come into the game
:"The offensive line made it really easy for me this week. They gave me plenty of time of pass and they drove guys away on the run."

On the game being 28-26:"We knew that our offense was going to be able to go in there and get things done, so we were just going to go out there and put some points on the board."

On the game being close:"There was a little bit of pressure when they closed the gap coming into halftime. We just have to go out there and execute like we can and not kill ourselves. Mistakes are what kills our offense, so we just have to go in there and do the things we know we can do"

San Jose State Quotes
Head Coach Fitz Hill:
Opening Statement
: The best team won today. They got to us and wore us down. Any time a team can jump on us like that, they can pound us a little bit, which takes us out of the ball game. They had Washington's game plan in the second half when they got up, and whenever you can get up by 14 points, it puts a lot of pressure on our offense to score. We felt like our size was on our side. We knew we were faster in some ways with our wideouts. We thought they could make some plays and they did. But you can't turn it over. We just didn't execute our game plan. I was very disappointed in how we put the ball on the ground.

On QB Scott Rislov: After talking to him, he knew the things that we were talking about and I don't want to get in a situation where we're just pulling and jerking. We're still very inconsistent at the quarterback position. No matter who we're putting in there, we're not protecting the ball and as a coach that's very frustrating.

On the youth on San Jose State's team: I do think that our youth played a big part. We got them involved in this game. In this environment tonight, I think some of them were trying too hard and we didn't capitalize on opportunities when we should have.

#38 FS Gerald Jones
On the defense
: We weren't aligning right. They weren't bigger, faster or stronger than us. It was our fault. We need to align right if we want to compete this year.

On Stanford's second half: In the second half they came out and ran the ball. As a defense we feel that's our strength, stopping the run. But we didn't align right and they took advantage of that and ran it down.
